A medical approach
What is medical weight loss?

Medical weight loss at Lotus MD goes beyond a diet program. It is a physician-supervised approach to the hormones, metabolism, genetics and lifestyle factors that affect your body’s ability to reach and keep a healthy weight. Each program is customized from lifestyle medicine and clinical review, so it fits your individual needs.
Commercial diet programs offer one plan for everyone. Ours starts with diagnostic testing to understand your metabolic profile and find underlying imbalances, then builds a treatment plan that works with your body.
This reflects our core philosophy: lasting change comes from addressing root causes, not just symptoms. When your metabolic health improves, it can show in your energy, body composition, skin and overall vitality.
The program combines weight management medications when appropriate, nutrition, hormone optimization and lifestyle medicine, with the goal of results you can sustain.
Candidacy
Who is medical weight loss for?
Ideal candidates include adults struggling with stubborn weight despite diet and exercise, people with metabolic dysfunction or insulin resistance, and anyone who wants a medically supervised, long-term approach. You may be a good candidate if you:
- Have tried multiple diet programs without lasting success
- Have unexplained weight gain or trouble losing weight
- Have noticed metabolic changes related to aging or hormones
- Want to understand the underlying causes of your weight challenges
- Prefer evidence-based treatment over quick fixes
- Are ready to commit to lasting lifestyle changes
- Value medical supervision and personalized care
Conditions we address
- Metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance
- Thyroid dysfunction affecting weight
- Hormone imbalances such as menopause, PCOS and low testosterone
- Emotional eating and your relationship with food
- Medication-induced weight gain
- Weight regain after previous dieting
- Age-related metabolic slowdown
Prescription medications are only prescribed after a medical evaluation, and they are not right for everyone. Your history, current medications, exam and lab work decide what is safe for you.

Measuring more than weight
We track body composition with an InBody analyzer, which uses bioelectrical impedance (BIA) to measure muscle and fat in each area of the body. The reports show your body composition and body water and how you compare with others of the same height and gender, so your plan is built on more than a scale reading.
- Segmental measurements for each part of the body
- Muscle balance and fat distribution
- Body composition and body water reports
- Results in under a minute, reviewed at your visit

Medical weight loss questions, answered
Still unsure? Book a consultation and ask us in person.
How is this different from commercial weight loss programs?
Our approach is medically supervised and looks at the physiological reasons you may struggle with weight. We use diagnostic testing, prescription medications when appropriate, and treat weight as a medical condition that needs individual care.
Will I need to take medications?
Not necessarily. Any medication recommendation depends on your assessment, medical history and goals. Many patients benefit from GLP-1 medications, but the program also includes many non-medication approaches.
What kind of results can I expect?
Results vary with individual factors, how closely you follow the plan and your starting metabolic health. Your physician sets realistic goals and a timeline with you once your test results are in.
Are the weight loss medications safe?
Weight loss medications are prescribed only after a medical evaluation and are monitored by a physician throughout your treatment. Like any prescription medication, they can have side effects, which we review with you before you start. We screen carefully, and if a medication is not right for you, we will not prescribe it.
What if I have underlying health conditions?
Medical supervision matters most if you have a condition such as diabetes, heart disease or a hormone disorder. Your physician will work with your other healthcare providers to keep your treatment safe and effective.
How much does the program cost?
Cost depends on your personalized plan, the diagnostic testing you need and any medication. We go over the cost of your plan at your consultation, before you commit to anything.
Will insurance cover the program?
Coverage depends on your plan. Some parts of care may be covered, particularly if you have obesity-related health conditions. We will help you understand your coverage and provide documentation for reimbursement when possible.
What happens if I plateau?
Plateaus are normal and expected. Your physician will adjust your treatment plan, change medications if needed, and use other strategies to help you keep progressing toward your goals.
How do you address emotional eating?
We recognize the psychological side of weight management and can provide counseling resources, stress management techniques and, when appropriate, referrals to specialized therapy.
